 Childhood Obesity  is A condition in which a child is significantly overweight for his or her age and height.Overweight and obesity in childhood are known to have significant impact on both physical and psychological health. Overweight and obese children are likely to stay obese into adulthood and more likely to develop non-communicable diseases like diabetes and cardiovascular diseases at a younger age. Childhood obesity has reached epidemic levels in developed as well as in developing countries.  The highest prevalence rates of childhood obesity have been observed in developed countries; however, its prevalence is increasing in developing countries as well.Females are more likely to be obese as compared to males, owing to inherent hormonal differences. Childhood obesity can profoundly affect children's physical health, social, and emotional well-being, and self esteem. It is also associated with poor academic performance and a lower quality of life experienced by the child. Many co-morbid conditions like metabolic, cardiovascular, orthopedic, neurological, hepatic, pulmonary, and renal disorders are also seen in association with childhood obesity.

Causes of Childhood Obesity:

1) Diet: Daily intake of high-calorie foods, such as fast foods,junk food  can cause your child to gain weight. Candy and desserts also can cause weight gain, sugary drinks, including fruit juices, as culprits in obesity in some people.

2) Genetics: If your child comes from a family of overweight people, he or she may be more likely to put on weight in Future.

3) Lack of exercise. Children who don't exercise much are more likely to gain weight because they don't burn as many calories. Too much time spent in sedentary activities, such as watching television or playing video games, help to gain weight .

4) Psychological factors :Stress can increase a child's risk of obesity. Some children overeat to cope with problems of stress.

5) Medications: Medicines like steroids, Anticounvulgent drugs  causes weight gain.

6) Medical Condition:If child is suffering from Hypothyroidism, PCOD, Cushing syndrome, etc causes weight gain/obesity.

Complications of Childhood Obesity: 

1) Type 2 Diabeties: overweight  children have more risk of Type 2 Diabetes in Future.

2) High Blood Pressure: Overweight  children have more risk of High Blood pressure, Heart disease.

3) High cholesterol : A poor diet can cause your child to develop condition of High cholesterol. These factors can contribute to the buildup of plaques in the arteries, which can cause arteries to narrow and harden, possibly leading to a heart attack or stroke later in life.

4) Sleep disorders: Obstructive sleep apnea is a serious  sleep disorder in which a child's breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep.

5)Fatty Liver  :Excess fat deposits  in the liver. NAFLD can lead liver damage.

6) Bone fractures: Obese children are more likely to break bones than normal children.

Emotional Complication in Overweight children :

•Loss of self confidence .
•Depression .
•Learning Problems.

Prevention of Childhood Obesity:

• Eat  colorful, nutritious  foods only: Always give healthy,nutritious, food,fruits to your children. 
● Avoid sugary drinks and fruit juice: Sugary drinks and fruit juices put lots of fat on your body because each serving contains more than 100 calories. If you want to lose weight you have to avoid sugary drinks and juices. 
● Avoid oily, fast food,junk food. 
● Drink coffee or  green tea. 
● Eat slowly, guide  your children to eat properly. Eating quickly can lead to weight gain over time, while eating slowly makes you feel more full and boosts weight-reducing hormones , chew your food an estimated 32 times before swallowing. Chew your food well to allow saliva to mix properly. Chewing your food well prevents digestion problems and allows your body to absorb all the nutrients completely. 
● Regularly check your  child weight. Studies show that people who weigh themselves every day are much more likely to lose weight and  help to maintain  for a long .

Most women gain between 11.5 kg and 16 kg, how much weight you gain is depen on your weight before you were pregnant — if you’re underweight you may need to gain a little more, and if you’re overweight you should gain a little less if you’re carrying twins.

Gaining more than the recommended amount of weight can increases risk of High Blood pressure, Diabetes, Hypothyroidism ,to Mother,also increase  risk of cesarean delivery, and obesity during childhood.
Gaining too much weight during pregnancy increases the likelihood that the baby will have a high birth weight, which can put the baby at risk for obesity and metabolic syndrome during childhood, (Metabolic syndrome is a combination of medical issues that include high blood pressure, diabeties, a large waist circumference and low levels of "good" cholesterol.)

Finally, gaining too much weight during pregnancy also may be associated with preeclampsia,  Preeclampsia is a serious complication that can develop during pregnancy when a woman has both high blood pressure and excess levels of protein in her urine. It can put both the mother and the baby at risk.

  • Take Your Meal on Time .
  • Snack try to include foods with fiber and protein to help keep you full.
  • Drink 15 glass of  pure water per day.

 Obesity/  overweight  is believed to account for 90% of the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, while recent research suggests that obese people are up to 90 times more likely to develop type 2 diabetes than those with a BMI more than 25 .
According To world Health organization at present  422 million people worldwide have Diabetes, particularly in low and middle income countries,
and 1.6 million deaths are attributed to Diabeties each year.

                                      Diabetes is a group of disorders characterized by chronic high blood glucose levels (hyperglycemia) due to the body's failure to produce any or enough insulin to regulate high glucose levels.
The hormone insulin moves sugar from the blood into your cells to be stored or used for energy. With diabetes, your body either doesn’t make enough insulin or can’t effectively use the insulin it does make.

There are two main types of diabetes:

 Type 1 diabetes :which often occurs in children or adolescents, is caused by the body's inability to make insulin .

 Type 2 diabetes :which occurs as a result of the body's inability to react properly to insulin (insulin resistance). Type 2 diabetes is more prevalent than type 1 diabetes and is therefore seen in roughly 90% of all diabetes cases.
Type 2 diabetes is predominantly diagnosed after the age of forty, however, it is now being found in all age ranges, including children and adolescents.

Gestational  Diabetes:  During pregnancy, some women develop high blood sugar levels. This condition is known as gestational diabetes mellitus .

Prediabeticwhen your blood sugar is higher than normal, but it’s not high enough for a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes.

Studies have found that lifestyle changes and small amounts of weight loss in the range of 5-10% can prevent or delay the development of type 2 diabetes among high-risk adults. Coronaviruses (Covid-19 ) are a large family of viruses transmitting between animals and people that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS-CoV) and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS-CoV).

Age ,sex Distribution of Covid-19 :

People of all ages both sex  can be infected by the novel coronavirus COVID-19.Older people, and people with pre-existing medical conditions (such as Obesity, Asthma, Diabetes, Heart disease,High blood pressure, Hiv, Cancer ) appear to be more vulnerable to becoming severely ill with the virus, these people should be very careful.

Incubation Period of Covid-19  (How long it takes for symptoms to appear):

 Symptoms of COVID-19 may appear in 2 to 14  Days after infection, during this period  the virus is contagious but  sometime patient does not display any symptom.

  6. If you have family members or housemates going in and out of the house, you may want to isolate yourself from them, as they may carry the virus even if they do not have symptoms.
